Who we are
KinaTech Brainz is an online publication based in FCT, Abuja, Nigeria. We publish guides on technology, scholarships, grants and hackathons, money, business, careers, health and travel. For any privacy question you can contact us at info@kinatechbrainz.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address, subject and message.
- Comments: the name you choose and the text of your comment. Comments are public once approved.
- Newsletter: your email address, if you subscribe.
Information collected automatically
- Log and device data: like most websites, our hosting provider records technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages requested and the date and time of each request. We use it to keep the Website secure and working.
- Usage data: if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects information about how you use the Website, such as the pages you visit, how long you stay and the site that referred you.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see the section on cookies below and our Cookie Policy.
We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive information such as health details, financial account numbers or government ID numbers.
How we use your information
- To publish and improve our articles and understand which content is useful.
- To reply to your messages and moderate comments.
- To send the newsletter you signed up for. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe, or you can email us to be removed.
- To show advertising that keeps our content free to read.
- To prevent spam, fraud and abuse, and to keep the Website secure.
- To comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.
Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors): we process personal data with your consent (for analytics and personalised advertising cookies, and the newsletter), for our legitimate interests (running, securing and improving the Website and replying to messages), and to meet legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Advertising and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense, a service provided by Google LLC, to show ads on the Website. In connection with this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Website and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- Other third-party ad vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on the Website through Google. You can see and manage them in Google Ads Settings.
- Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and How Google uses cookies in advertising.
We use Google Consent Mode. Until you agree, Google is told not to use cookies for personalised advertising or analytics, and only non-personalised ads are requested. Non-personalised ads are based on the page you are reading rather than your history, but may still use cookies for frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland may see a consent message provided by Google, where they can make or change their choices.
Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Website. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed and approximate location. You can opt out by declining cookies, using the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page, or installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Cookies
We use essential cookies and local storage to remember your cookie choice and theme, and, with your consent, analytics and advertising cookies. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page, and block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Read our Cookie Policy for details.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers that run the Website for us: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Cloudflare (image storage and spam protection) and Google (advertising and analytics). They may only use it to provide their services.
- When the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our readers or the public.
- As part of a merger, sale or transfer of the Website, in which case this policy will continue to apply.
International transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, they use safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep information
- Contact messages: for up to 24 months, then deleted unless we still need them to deal with your request.
- Comments: while they are published, or until you ask us to remove them.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Cookies: for the periods described in our Cookie Policy and by Google.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct or delete it;
- object to or restrict how we use it, or withdraw consent;
- receive it in a portable format;
- complain to your local data protection authority (for example, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, an EU supervisory authority or the UK ICO).
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you may ask what personal information we collect and how we use it, ask us to delete it, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money; to opt out of personalised advertising, decline cookies or use Google Ads Settings. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
To use any of these rights, email info@kinatechbrainz.com. We may need to confirm your identity and will reply within 30 days.
Security
We use HTTPS everywhere, encrypted connections to our database and access controls for our team. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Links to other websites
Our articles link to other websites, such as official scholarship, grant and hackathon pages and news sources. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their privacy policies.
Children's privacy
The Website is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
